Business blog…to blog or not to blog, that is the question.
What is a blog? Think of it as a compilation of magazine articles put together right on your website. A blog is a corporate tool for communicating with customers or employees to share knowledge and expertise, build additional web traffic, and connect with potential customers.
Does every business need a blog? Maybe not. However, they should- it is a great idea to have one, especially for small businesses. A blog has come a long way from being online journals; but they still remain personal. So why should your business have a blog?
Let potential customers get to know the business – Why should a customer choose your product over the competition? Why is your web hosting better than another? What is it that makes your business stand out? All of these things can be discussed in your business blog. Talk about why the business was started and what goals your business wants to reach. Discuss the ideas behind your product or products- how was it created? Share a funny story about brainstorming or the years it took to get something right. You can be a lot more personal about your business on a blog than in a product description.
Offer value to current and potential customers – Your blog is a great way to offer something of value to your customers. For example, if you are a photo storage company, share photography tips with your readers. You can offer photography book suggestions, ways to get a good shot, and ideas for how to use the photos. If you have a deal site, suggest other tips for saving money. An all-natural snack company can give tips on healthy living and easy ways to have healthy snacks on the go. The possibilities are endless and you give potential customers a reason to want to use your product.
Engage with your customers and potential customers – Engagement can turn into leads, so leverage your blog wisely. Solicit feedback and suggestions for your business while answering any concerns that might arise. People like to buy from businesses they feel they know- so get to know the customers and let them get to know you! A blog is a great way to open a dialogue and get people talking, and the more conversation around your business, the better.
Overall, you can certainly have a business without a blog. But, a business blog is an easy tool to reach your customers and potential customers. The end goal is to grow your business and a blog is an easy, cost-effective way to do just that.
